Red Wings Win in Extras, Chiefs Lose to Bulls

Both teams were in action playing the middle game of their respective three-game series.  Let’s take a look.

ROCHESTER 4, Columbus 3 (11 Innings)
WP: Alex Wimmers (5-3, 2.70)
LP: Kyle Crockett (5-4, 3.05)

Looking to win their fourth game in a row, the Rochester Red Wings sent David Hurlbut to the mound, for the middle game of the three-game set with the Columbus Clippers.  The Red Wings jumped out to an early 1-0 in the top of the first inning.  Niko Goodrum led off the game with a double and would later score on a Mitch Garver RBI-single.  The lead would be short lived as the Clippers responded in the bottom half of the first to tie the game at one.  With a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Red Wings looked to be in good position for the win.  Columbus would rattle off two runs to tie the game eventually sending into extra innings.  Garver would hit a one-out double in the 11th inning, and Kennys Vargas would drive him in for the eventual winning run.  Alex Wimmers would shut down Columbus in his inning and two-thirds worth of work giving Rochester their 71st win of the season.

With the win the Red Wings remain in the top Wild Card spot, and are 6.5 games back in their division.  Both teams finish up their series on Thursday with the first pitch scheduled for 12:05 est.  Rochester will remain on the road with a three-game series in Louisville.

The Chiefs turned to Jacob Turner in hopes to pick up their second win in as many days against the Durham Bulls.  Turner went six innings for the Chiefs allowing all three of the Bulls runs enroute to his fifth loss of the season.  Zach Collier would erase the 1-0 Bulls lead in the bottom of the third inning after he hit his fourth home run of the season, scoring both him and Michael Almanzar who hit a double earlier in the inning.  The Chiefs would be able to hold onto the lead until the sixth inning.  The Bulls’ Jake Bauers led off the sixth with a solo home run, followed by a Patrick Leonard solo shot two batters later.  The Bulls would hold on for the 3-2 win.

The Chiefs drop to 46-77 on the season while Durham improves to 74-48.  The series finale is scheduled for Thursday at 6:35pm est at NBT Bank Stadium.  The Chiefs will host the Indianapolis Indians for a three-game set starting Friday.
