Bauers Homer Lifts Bulls Past Indians
After taking down the Indianapolis Indians in game one of the IL Semi-Finals, the Durham Bulls looked to take a 2-0 series lead on Thursday night. Yonny Chirinos who has been as solid a starter this season in Triple-A as any got the ball for the Bulls. He responded in Chirinos fashion by going seven solid innings of shutout baseball picking up his first win of the postseason. The Bulls on the strength of a Jake Bauers home run, beat the Indians 2-0 to take a commanding series lead. The series heads to Indianapolis on Friday.
Bauers first home run of the playoffs came in the bottom of the second inning to start things off for the Bulls. After an offensive onslaught the night before, Durham’s bats were a bit quiet but gave them all they needed for the win. With the two hits on Thursday night, Bauer is now 4-for-7 (.571) with three runs scored and has driven in three of his own.
In both playoff games so far, Durham has received quality outings from their starters, and even better performances from the bullpen. The team looks poised to advance but as everyone knows, anything is possible in the postseason.
IronPigs Take Down RailRiders in 12 Innings
After Mother Nature halted game one of this series on Wednesday, she wouldn’t have a say in things on Thursday. The series kicked off in Lehigh Valley and it was a good one. Carlos Tocci took matters into his own hands in the twelfth inning with a walk-off single scoring Angelo Mora to take a 1-0 series lead for WildCard IronPigs.
Scranton/WB was flying high with a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Then things began to unravel. Lehigh Valley rattled off four runs to tie the game at five. It would remain that way until Tocci’s hit. Both of the games starters were a bit underwhelming but their bullpens made up for it. Domingo German started for Scranton/WB and gave up all five Lehigh Valley runs. On the other side of the field Drew Anderson got the ball for the IronPigs and allowed all five RailRiders’ runs.
Game two is scheduled for Friday with a 7:05 start.
