Several reports are surfacing on the sale of the Syracuse Chiefs to the New York Mets. The Chiefs have been community controlled since 1961. The Mets will be moving their Triple-A team from Las Vegas to Syracuse in 2019.
“With Syracuse’s rich history and love of baseball, the Mets purchasing the Syracuse Chiefs is a grand slam for the entire community” Senator Charles Schumer said to Syracuse.com.
This move works on a couple of levels. First for the Mets, they will now have their Triple-A and Double-A teams based in the same state for the first time since they were involved with the Buffalo Bisons. The move makes it easier on the players as well, since they won’t need to travel as far while their careers progress.
We will be following the story more closely as more information becomes available.
